Why I Walked Out of a Chiropractor’s Office

Why I Walked Out of a Chiropractor’s Office—and What Chronic Illness Warriors Need to Know About Over-Radiation

ree

Let’s talk about it.

I walked into a chiropractor’s office, hoping for relief. I’ve been living with chronic pain for years—diagnosed, misdiagnosed, poked, prodded, and dismissed more times than I can count. But when the chiropractor refused to adjust me without an x-ray, I politely thanked him... and walked out. [ disclaimer: This isn’t about judging the Doctor or his practices, I completely understand his reasoning (and he was very kind) ]…

Why I walked out?

Because I’ve had over 100+ radiology scans in the last decade. CTs, MRIs, X-rays, Gallium Scan, Pet Scans, contrast studies—you name it, I’ve been zapped by it. And while each doctor might think “just one more scan won’t hurt,” the truth is... they’re not talking to each other and nothing is ever good enough for the other.

This is the reality for so many people with chronic illness. We become medical orphans—shuffled from specialist to specialist, each ordering their own tests, with no accountability for the cumulative impact. No one stops to ask:

Has she already been exposed to this radiation multiple times?

Could we share imaging from another doctor?

Is this test really necessary—or just standard protocol?

Chronic radiation exposure is a real danger. Research shows repeated exposure increases long-term risks of cancer, cell mutation, and immune suppression—especially for those of us already battling autoimmunity and inflammation. And yet, we’re often pressured into compliance because we’re afraid of being denied care.

But we have the right to say NO.

We have the right to ask questions, advocate for ourselves, and protect our already sensitive bodies.

I left that office because my healing matters more than anyone’s discomfort with my boundaries.

And if you’re reading this as someone navigating chronic illness—I see you. Protect your energy. Trust your body. You are allowed to walk away from care that doesn’t feel safe.

P.S. I dive deeper into this kind of self-advocacy in my book Bitch, Your Aura Is Calling. This is exactly why I wrote it—so no woman feels alone or gaslit on her healing journey.
